ELECTROMAGNETIC FLOWMETER
The Toshiba
LF410 electromagnetic flowmeter accurately measures the flow of almost any
conducting liquids including foods, pharmaceuticals, pulps and slurries with
suspended solids. Cost effective Wide range High accuracy No
obstruction to flow Highly resistant ceramic lining Easy to set up
Good stability and noise suppression
Application
Electromagnetic flowmeters are ideally suited for most
conducting liquids including aggressive, abrasive and corrosive liquids and
those containing solids. The bore of the flowmeter is smooth with no
obstruction to flow hence the pressure drop is low. The measurement is
independent of pressure, temperature, density, conductivity (above certain
limits) and viscosity. Typical applications are for the measurement of
chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pulp, foods, acids, alkalis, dyes, waste water and
liquids containing solid matter.
Principle of Operation
The flowmeter consists of two parts: a detector which is
mounted in the pipeline and through which the measured liquid flows, and a
converter which may be mounted either integral with the detector or separately.
The converter conditions and outputs the electrical signal from the detector.
The measuring principle is based on Faradays Law of Electromagnetic Induction
which states that if an electrical conductor, in this case the measured liquid,
passes through a magnetic field a small electromotive force (EMF) is induced
perpendicular to the field and flow. This EMF is proportional to the average
flow velocity and is detected by two electrodes mounted in the wall of the
detector and then fed to the converter. The divided multi sampling and noise
suppression provides superior accuracy and stability. Presence of deposits on
the electrodes have no effect on the zero point as long as some part of the
electrode is exposed. The coil arrangement of the flowmeter is such that uneven
flow can be measured correctly. The functional magnetic field distribution
technique and the reduced number of components result in improved flow
measurement efficiency and reliability.
Construction
The stainless steel construction is durable and gives
excellent corrosion resistance. The rotor is machined from solid making it
virtually indestructible. The sleeve bearings provide you with highly reliable
performance over long periods.
Calibration
The flowmeter can be set to any flow range between the
minimum and maximum flow ranges in the following table. A test certificate is
issued for each flowmeter and the amplifier output is set to customer
requirements.
Installation
The flowmeter can be mounted in any plane but should be
maintained full of liquid at all times. For vertical installations flow should
be upwards and in all cases the electrodes should be horizontal. This flowmeter
has a short inlet-to-outlet length and should be installed with between five
and ten pipe diameters upstream. No downstream diameters are required. The
LF410/LF400 is a combined detector and converter. The LF410 can be mounted
separate to the LF420 converter for remote mounting.
